Labour run Plymouth City Council have started to wage war on motorists in Plymouth. Using new powers allocated to local councils, Plymouth City Council intends to apply to the Department for Transport for new powers to enforce moving traffic offences across the City.
If the powers are granted, the Council will be able to use camera technology to enforce the traffic restrictions across the City and issue fines. The first change they are looking at doing is the Pedestrian Zone along Marlborough Street. Vehicles are currently prohibited from Marlborough Street between 9.30am and 4.30pm from Monday to Saturday.
Under these new powers, vehicles accessing the Marlborough Street when not permitted to do so, would face a penalty charge notice of £70. This is a trial scheme but how will the success be measured?
